Office Open but Thursday evening church canceled

Our church office is open and our staff are working today. DC area still in clean up phase.

With a lot of plowing and the potential of freezing roads tonight, we are going to cancel this evenings worship service (Thursday, January 27th). Message that has been prepared for the evening will be offered this Sunday morning.

Stay safe and hope power returns to those homes that are without it.

Church office is on a 2 hour delay this morning due to the winter weather. Update will be posted later this morning on activities at church later today and this evening.

If you normally attend the Thursday evening worship service, please make sure to check this blog or call my cell before venturing out. If the weather doesn't cooperate, we will cancel.

Thursday Evening Worship Cancelled -- December 16

Thursday, December 16 ---Due to the inclement weather today and slipper conditions (the first snow of the season), we have decided to cancel the 7pm worship service tonight. Choir is also canceled for this evening.

Come on Sunday as Anne Crawford will be our guest preacher at 9. The Senior High Youth will be offering the leadership at the 1130 service.

Thursday, February 11 Worship is Canceled

Friends,

We are going to go ahead and cancel the Thursday evening worship service this week (2/11) just to be proactive and safe- thus letting clearning crews in the region to keep working on the roads.

We hope all keep safe.

Please know that our church staff will continue to monitor email and phones and conduct business the best we are able during this winter weather. Pastors and program staff will be actively calling and working on many plans for Lent.

Monday Feb 8 Church Service is Canceled

Friends, we are going to cancel the Monday 2/8 evening church service (scheduled for 7pm) as a safety precaution.

The roads are still pretty bad (including 355 in front of the church). With the freezing anticipated after sundown, I would prefer to see us stay put in the safety of our homes and gather next sunday (or Thursday evening)

Re: Next Sunday 2/14 Worship Service- we will be celebrating it as "Souper Bowl" Sunday still in honor of our church's committment to feed the poor and hungry in our community (and the wider world). Tables will remain up in the lobby to collect food.

Tommorow church, 2/7 will unfortunately need to be canceled. . . . however, we have scheduled a church service for Monday evening, 2/8 at 7pm in the sanctuary!

Contingency Plan for Feb 6-8

Snow Appears to be Headed DC Way Again this Weekend (Feb 6 & 7)

Assume that Sunday services are going to be on as scheduled! If you are worried about snow, consider coming out on Thursday, 2/4 for the Thursday service in Shepherds Hall (7-730pm)

*If weather is horrendous and we had to cancel Sunday services, Pastor Dave will post that information by no later than 6am on Sunday 2/7 on www.gsweatherupdate.blogspot.com The link to that blog will be on the church web site.

*Monday Evening Worship, 2/8 at 7pm in shepherds Hall (7 to 730pm) would occur (if Sunday services are canceled)

Souper Bowl Sunday collection—Bring food on Monday evening if Sunday Services are canceled. Or. . . bring on Sunday, 2/14. food is needed so let’s make sure we get it into hands of people who need it.

First Communion families would be contacted individually re: alternate class plans (which Pastor Dave will lead)

Parking Lot and Sidewalks at church are clear. I had to drive one of my kids to Olney to swim at 645 this morning and I had no trouble getting there. Just built in some extra time to be safe.

CHILDREN'S PAGEANT IS TUESDAY DECEMBER 22
6PM Rehearsal
7pm Pageant (that was slated for 10am this past Sunday)
The kids have worked hard to get this ready for the church. Come on out and show your support to the kids as well as enjoying their joyous presentation.

Once you dig out of the snow, consider coming on out for worship this Monday evening or to the Children's Pageant on Tuesday. Either one will be a good way to celebrate the 4th week of Advent. 7pm WORSHIP AT GOOD SHEPHERD to celebrate 4th Week in Advent
Note- We will follow the Thursday evening format. Dress is casual. Holy Communion and Sermon that was prepared for this Sunday will be offered.

Musical Rehearsals for the various bell groups are still in order unless Jeanne Wernly or Ralph Bunge tell us otherwise

7pm Children’s Christmas Pageant (Rescheduled from 10am Sunday 12/20)

Saturday pageant rehearsal is cancelled

The saturday rehearsal for the childrens pageant has been cancelled. Please bring your child to shepherds hall at 9am sharp on sunday morning for rehearsal. Note- if weather forces sunday cancelation the pageant will be at 7pm on Tuesday Dec 22.
Rehearsal would be 6pm that night.

Reminder. If worship needs to be cancelled sunday there will be a Monday evening worship service to celebrate the 4th week of advent. That would be at 7pm in shepherds hall.

Weather Update for Sunday, December 20th Worship

A fairly substantial winter storm appears to be headed into the region. This page will provide details if changes to our Sunday worship need to be made

At this point (Thursday evening), normal Sunday is in order. I intend to be at 3 worship services (830, 10, and 1115) on Sunday. I just spent 2 days in Minnesota so I am ready to brave the snow.

If for some reason, the weather is so bad that services are in question, please check this site for updates. IF (repeat IF) services need to be canceled on Sunday, there would be a Monday Evening Worship service and a rescheduled Children's Pageant for Tuesday evening.

Let's pray that the storm is gentle and heads out to see. Stay safe. Reminder-- invite a friend to worship on Christmas Eve!
